New Year, New You, Better HVAC Maintenance

We are already fast into the New Year, if you have been reading the earlier blogs you know we have talked about how to inspect your AC unit for hail damage (after that freak hail storm in Phoenix back in November!) and how getting a whole new unit can get you a vacation while you are at it! Not too shabby huh? Well, in that same spirit of HVAC care, we decided to give you this piece on HVAC maintenance, after all – you take care of your HVAC system, it’ll take care of you!

HVAC Maintenance Resolutions!

Annual Maintenance

This might be the easiest step to implement! Annual maintenance from professionals like us at ACE Home Services. Having an annual HVAC maintenance checkup will take care of upward of 90% of all possible minor problems in need of repair. When caught early they are rarely a real problem for us or for the cost.

Change air filters in your home at least once a month in the Phoenix Metro Area from Ace Home Services

Replace the Air Filters

Replacing air filters on time may be the number one most critical step you can take yourself, and it is absolutely necessary. Continuing to use your HVAC with clogged filters is a sure way to damage the equipment. The filters are accessible from inside your home, simply turn a couple screws and swap out the filter. Typically filters need to be changed every 30 to 90 days, though the more people (and animals) you have in the home, the faster the replacing will need to take place.

Clean the Vents

While you are replacing the air filters, clean the vents around your home! The vents can get dusty and become blocked with dirt and grime build up. Simply take a vacuum to the vents and suck all that dust bye-bye. While you’re there, place your hand in front of the vent and check for any weak air flow. If the air isn’t blowing as it should, schedule a quick call and get it fixed before it becomes a bigger problem.

Clean the Unit

When possible, clean the outside of the HVAC unit. Take a look and make sure that there isn’t any debris (twigs, leaves, palms etc.) sticking anywhere in the unit. If your unit is on the ground or somewhere that the surrounding vegetation might be able to grow into it, trim back the plants (a 3 ft radius is perfect.) and give it a wipe down to get rid of any dirt. Cleaning the coils should also be done once or twice a year – if you don’t feel confident here, we can help show you the ropes when we do a check up.

And most of all…

Pay Attention!

You have put all this extra work into it, it sure would be smart to pay extra attention going forward. Listen for any strange sounds like thumping, buzzing, or rattling. Keep an eye out for any strange performance changes like iffy heating or areas that never seem to cool. The sooner these problems are identified, the sooner you can get them fixed, ensuring that any potential repairs are handled ASAP, keeping your unit from catastrophic failure, and oh yeah, saving you some dinero while you’re at it!

This is the bare minimum of  HVAC maintenance that you need to practice to keep your unit operating as smooth as possible, for as long as possible. Stressful? Don’t sweat it! We are here to help. Give ACE Home Services a call or schedule an appointment and in addition to our stellar service we’ll help you understand how best to maintain your HVAC.  Check out our specials for more services at a great price to keep your home operating at 100% efficiency!
